Case Studies
Please take note that
the Case Studies are based on the previous School Sales Rep
Program. Nevertheless, the point is the same: You can really
earn money if you work hard!

Secondary School)

"Muhammad Farhan Bin Zainal is a
typical student in Compassvale Secondary School. After
reading the previews online and purchasing all the books ,
he came across this website which offers to an opportunity
for him to earn money.
Seeing the potential in the books that he had just
purchased, he decided to give it a try. He emailed us and
came down to the office on a weary Saturday. On that day, he
collected twelve books.
To his surprise, he sold all the books within a week, a
total of twelve books. All his customers were his friends
who were interested to buy the books but were lazy to order
online. Seeing this as a stepping stone, he went to the
office the next week, and collected twenty books instead.
And on that week, he started to receive calls from
strangers, even those from other schools!
"I believe they called me because of my network." Farhan
told us. As a member of the Singapore Red Cross Youth, he
has a wide network of friends, and he deduced that when a
few friends knew about him selling the books, they spreaded
the news around.
In May, Farhan came to our office three times, and sold more
than 60 books. In fact, he is so popular among his network
of friends that someone living in Chua Chu Kang, a Singapore
Chinese Girls' School student, approached him to purchase
the books! And the amazing fact: He lives in Punggol!
"I didn't do much marketing." He reasoned. When we first met
him, he looks just like a typical quiet Sales Rep who seldom
talk. But after interacting with him for a few meetings, we
realize it could be his candid and sincere attitude that
brings him all the sales.
"I also don't know" was his simple answer when we wondered
why someone from a school so far away from his school will
approach him.
Well, all we want to know is that people like him show us
that going that extra mile, with a smile and a jovial
outlook, will
not only bring in new friends, but also sales, which equals
to money!"
"Sharon Hoo is only 18 this
year, but she has a big dream when she first joined the
Goody Books School Sales Representative Program: "I was
expecting to earn a lot from this program and I even had
targeted myself to sell at least 50 sets within one to two
months." Bold words from a brave girl, who we believe will
be, without a doubt, one of our top Sales Reps.
Sharon first joined us in mid-May, and from then on, yearned
for good sales results. She came to the office every week,
and every week, the books she collected from us were never
below 15 books. Like many of our Sales Reps, she became a
Sales Rep after realizing the potential of the books. "I
wanted to buy a set of 4 long ago through website. But I was
afraid I can't get the book and recently this sales rep
program came out so I took it on." She told us.

Our Finance Manager giving Sharon Hoo (Right) her deserved
pay cheque.
Sharon is the hardworking Sales Rep that we look forward to
seeing every week: Coming down to the office to report
weekly, sales exceeding what we had expected from her and
lots of promotion effort from her. Her efforts paid off:
Within two weeks, she sold a total of 33 books. And we are
expecting more books to be sold by her on our next meeting
from her: maybe the 40 books mark? Or - we will not be
surprised - bypassing the 60 books mark!
So, how did she promote the books? "MSN nick, give out every
single flyer outside school gates, word of mouth to friends,
and finally blogspot. I set up a blog to sell the books."
Sharon Hoo is the role model for all Sales Reps, for her
hardworking attitude has attracted our attention. She is the
perfect example of a "Effort = Sales" formula, and we hope
her story has inspired many of our Sales Reps.
So, is she happy working with Goody Books, when we are so
glad to have her around? "Of course I am happy. The
management is very helpful." And she concluded the answer
with a "=)". We are sure that is sincere enough."
"If you are a School Sales Rep,
has a blogshop selling our books and got tagged by someone
nicknamed Calista Soh, do not worry: She's one of us, a
member of the Goody Books School Sales Representative
Program.
"I gave out the flyers to my friends and explained to them
what the books are about, searched online for blog owners
that have showed interest in the books and left my contact
details on their tagboard, and I sent emails to the email
address I collected from the chain emails that I received."
Said Calista Soh, a Goody Books School Sales Representative
in Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
Calista Soh is one of the pioneers
who joined us when the program was first implemented. A
quiet girl who sat at the corner when we introduced
ourselves to her, she was reserved but opened up soon after.
When we asked her if earning money is the main purpose for
joining us, we were surprised when we expected another
answer from her. "As I read the introduction, where it was
mentioned that there may be people that wants to buy the
books but yet don't want to get it by post, I really felt
very sad for them as the books are too good to be missed!
Thus, I wanted to be a school sales rep so I can
provide a more convenient alternative for these people."
Politically correct answer? But, of course, she also added
that "I started with the mindset that this is just going to
be a secondary income and I didn't want to rely too much on
the money I earned from this program, but as time goes by, I
really hope that this income will be able to support my
shopping needs!"

Our Finance manager giving Calista Soh (Right) her pay cheque.
So far, Calista has reached the 20 books mark, and is aiming
for the next 40 books mark. It is not an easy journey, as
she admitted that when she first signed up, she did not
really put in much effort until she received the first email
that invited her to go back to report her earnings and to
get more books. "I felt very challenged to put in more
effort in promoting the books and thus, as I started doing
that, I sold my first book!" This, as what we always
highlight, is another example of the formula "Effort =
Sales"!
Well, we wish Calista the best of luck, and hope by the next
time we meet her, she'll be on her 40 books mark. Who knows,
she may be on the 60 books mark, for all she needs to do is
to double her effort!"
